Belmont Board of selectmen is considering a request to understand the stormwater impact of the proposed development at the Belmont Uplands using current scientific data BEFORE a building permit is issued. In compliance with DEP guidelines, the proposed development has been designed to a 50-year old estimate of the 100-year storm event (6.5 inches of rain in 24 hours). Since 1993, this event has been known to occur every 30 years, not every 100 years. In order to take steps to prevent costly flooding damage, the town needs to understand how much runoff will be coming off this site. Please write or call your selectmen and request that the town or the developer spend the estimated $1500 necessary to understand the stormwater impact of the proposed development using current precipitation data (over 8 inches of rain in 24 hours) (617- 993 - 2610 or selectmen@belmont.ma.gov)
