Reminiscences at Alewife Reservation

From Kathy

We have managed to win a few nice days and I am starting to get used to the cold...... Your Native garden looks prepared for the winter.... I wanted to tell you how impressed I was with an 'in person' visit to the cleared out (phragmites) pathway that leads to Discovery Park.... What an amazing difference!!.... the before and after invasive pics from FAR were good but the reality was even better!... Just standing on the bridge I could see through to the pathway without the phragmites.... don't ever remember that before.... and it was much more pleasant with so much more meadow plantings to see in that area....... thanks for all of your hard work..... it was an enormous amount of invasives removed.....well you know that better than me.

I've been visiting less but not out of choice.... Weather makes it more challenging.... sometimes I dash out for awhile hoping it won't rain (that would short out my scooter, possibly)....and those really special days like yesterday when the weather was beautiful..... I noticed the ducks at Yates Pond by the bridge are getting quite comfortable with the lookout.... when people are there... they sort of ignore us humans and swim around the island.... yesterday I was taking a pic of one only to see him go right into the grasses and presumably out the other side.... delighted that he had discovered his mobility in the wetlands.... I didn't see the heron for a few days and thought perhaps he had moved on.... but yesterday managed to catch a glimpse just before sunset.... and got a couple of pics... he seemed quite satisfied in the pond by himself.... although I think he may spend the night somewhere else as I have seen him flying over the wetlands....maybe toward Little Pond?.....
