Birding begins at Alewife newly constructed wetlands
|
First recorded birding trip to newly constructed Alewife Reservation wetlands.
Slowly but surely birders are coming.
This morning Karsten Hartel and myself surveyed the Alewife Reservation checking out the new boardwalks and plantings along the bike trail from Alewife to Blanchard Road. We both got a LIFE bird- sort of- an Orange-cheeked Waxbill which we kept seeing and hearing. I mention this because Jeremiah Trimble has been seeing an Orange-cheeked Waxbill at Fresh Pond, perhaps someone got tired of them and set them free; but it sure was fun hearing a song so unfamiliar and then locating the bird.
This area has a lot of potential, the official opening is tomorrow. High counts of Song and Swamp Sparrows
