Report on HIGH WATER levels at Alewife
From DCR observer
August 26, 2010
I went to inspect the foot-bridges yesterday and found bridges 1 + 2 floating in 2 ft. of water! Not too surprising since we had 2 in of rain in 2 hrs. and 2 days of rain. Still, I checked the trail 24 hrs. earlier and there was barely any water. I wish I'd had my camera with me, but at least I got to see the floodplain under flood conditions. Bridge #2 was holding firm but was just about to be breached when the rain let up. The ability of the Little River floodplain to hold all that water was pretty amazing. I'm glad I got to see that, even if I ruined a pair of boots walking a couple of hundred yards in knee-deep water.
