Sixth Annual Solstice Service at Alewife Reservation
December 21, 2008

The 6th Annual winter solstice service has arrived at the Alewife Reservation, The Friends of Alewife Reservation appeal to all who value the earth to share our interfaith ritual and service in this remarkable urban wild.

At this time, Night and Day will be completely in balance and we will sing, dance, drum and read poetry to call upon the governing powers, and the powers of the spirit to balance nature's need to flourish with life through its protecting ecosystems of woodlands and marshes, and the need for people to find shelter.

Faith traditions of Christian, Muslim, Jewish and others will be represented. Solstice music and song will be provided with Native American flute, drumming, chorus, centered around a fire, with rituals in harmony with the frosty time of year and the environment of the region's 130 acre urban wild, filled with animals, forest and birds.

The event is at 2:00, Sunday, December 2, at the east entrance to the Alewife T stop across from the passenger pickup and at the open field off of the Belmont-Cambridge bike path. See signage. After the Solstice at 3pm until 4:30 pm, there will be a wildlife walk to the silver maple forest, led by Dave Brown, assessor for the Friends of Alewife Reservation.
