Recent Beautiful photos from Seamus Palmer
February 2, 2008

I took a walk along the Lower Alewife Brook from St Paul’s Cemetery through the rear of Sunnyside Ave at about 1.30pm today.

It was like early spring with quite a lot of birdsong coming from the hedgerows and trees.

At the St. Paul’s section of the Alewife I photographed around 15 Dark-eyed Juncos, 4 Downy Woodpeckers and 3 White Breasted Nuthatches. The latter were once again feeding going UP a tree rather than coming down head first.

Strangely there were no Robins to be found here today whereas usually there are many.

Further along the Brook many Purple Finches were singing.

Saw about 4 Blue jays and heard many others kicking up a racket.

Also present were some 7 or 8 Northern Mockingbirds and a male Cardinal.

As I looked into the trees I could see several small downy, mossy nests still quite intact from last year.

This part of the Alewife consistently hosts birds of many species and numbers.

Earlier today the ever present West Somerville Red Tailed hawks scattered pigeons making for a thrilling sight from my window

An enjoyable February day.

Regards,

Seamus
