Belmont applies to DEP for watershed assessment grant Belmont Applies to Assess Little Pond, Blair Pond and Claypit Pond for Future Improvements. From the FAR files added to website January 17, 2007 (title corrected January 23, 2007) 'The proposed project involves the watershed assessment of Little Pond, Blair Pond and Claypit Pond within the Town of Belmont and City of Cambridge. Various studies and monitoring/sampling efforts have been conducted within these areas, all tributary to the Mystic River, with data showing elevated levels of phosphorus, nitrogen, pathogens, turbidity and dissolved oxygen as a result of various sources of nonpoint source pollution. In an effort to restore these waterbodies and prevent further degradation, the proposed project will review existing information, conduct a watershed survey of NPS issues, address data gaps, and prioritize problem areas while recommending structural and non-structural solutions. Recommended BMPs will focus on current issues such as groundwater recharge, infiltration, operations and maintenance as well as BMP cost-effectiveness and site constraints. Low Impact Development (LID) elements will be recommended where appropriate so as to serve as LID demonstrations for urban areas. This project is aimed to directly serve as the basis for future funding (ie: s.319 Nonpoint Source Pollution Grant) for the implementation of prioritized structural and non-structural BMPs.' |
