6th-8th grade students clean up Alewife Brook Reservation
August 5, 2005 - led by FAR volunteer Dan Rueters-Ward

On August 5th, 2005, FAR volunteer Dan Rueters-Ward led a group of 6-8th grade students on a clean up of the Alewife Brook Reservation.

The students attended as part of the Summerbridge Cambridge program in which high school and college students organize educational activities for middle school students. The goal of the program is to provide the participants will the skills and enthusiasm needed to succeed in higher education and beyond.

Rueters-Ward prepared the students for their service activity by discussing many safety concerns relevant to outdoor work. He also briefly discussed and answered questions about the importance of the Alewife Brook Reservation and the flora and fauna found therein. The students were eager to do their part for the reservation and collected several bags of litter using gloves and tools provided by FAR. The event was truly a success and FAR greatly appreciates the work of both Dan and the Summerbridge students!
