Resident on Blair Pond
(added to website July 3, 2004)

There is an Oriole nest on the south side of Blair Pond in high branch of willow tree. Adult male and female birds fly in and out of it. They are very active and highly territorial.

A wild turkey was in the neighborhood on the south side of the pond for three days end of June. Roamed in front and back yards on North side of Normandy Ave.

Two painted turtles came up from pond to back yards on North side of Normandy Ave in late June.

A Large snapping turtle has been sighted in middle of pond in late June.

Residents saw a large garter snake eating a toad in back yard on North side of Normandy Ave end of June.

Saw one great horned owl flying south from Blair Pond towards Loomis St. Alighted on large pine on south side of Normandy, joining a second great horned owl. Stayed for several minutes and both flew towards Loomis St.

In April and May several Blair Pond neighbors sighted coyotes. They ranged from the parking lot at Sancta Maria, to S. Normandy Ave to the area just to the south of Blair Pond. Many nights heard coyotes howling. No coyote sightings or vocalizations in June with an increase in the woodchuck population.

Our neighborhood has had less rabbit sightings this year.

Spring migrants observed on South side of Blair backyards:
Black and white, and yellow warblers.
Goldfinches.
Catbirds.
White throated and yellow crowned sparrows.
Brown headed cowbirds.
Nuthatches.
Chickadees.
Downy woodpeckers in abundance.
Flickers.
