after what seemed like an absence of 4 or 5 weeks the Great Blue Heron that frequents Yates Pond was sighted again last week… and a few days following….. he is less than a year although in nearly fully mating plumage…..so maybe??… if you see a really large nest near the top of a tree please let me know!….. I have been taking photos of him since he fledged last year and he toughed out the winter but then I couldn’t locate him for a few weeks…. good to have him back…. Later that day we saw him catch a fish near Little River bridge…so he might be hunting there….
Don’t worry… they are worried about you… just don’t go where they don’t want you to because they are trying to keep their families safe……just like you!… The ducks are in mating season, too, as well as song birds… You may see them only in pairs or singles as they take breaks for each other from the nest … we all should be able to start seeing babies in a few weeks… meanwhile they are keeping a close eye on visitors, too…. If you are in the wetlands you may see a goose head pop up from a grassy spot every now and then…..
