Dear Former Consultants of Alewife Reservation Summer Ecology Camp,
My name is Chamaine Washington, and I will be the Assistant Camp Supervisor, working with the student youth of the Mayor’s Program (Mayor’s Youth Summer Employment Program) for the Friends of Alewife Reservation I am in my final semester at the University of Massachusetts Boston, studying for a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science. I have previous teaching experience working with urban youth and have been successful at my work. I am very excited to assist Cambridge teens to learn the importance of ecology in their home town.
I look forward to teaching the importance of water quality this summer, through presentations, hands-on experiments in testing and analyzing the River water from the Reservation. I will be managing the camp as well with my colleague Mae Quilty from Boston. I have heard great things about your help in the past and would like your support again with various aspects to the camp including insect observations, identity and drawings. As you know we go on field trips as well and I will be a co-manager of the Camp. We hope the camp will allow students to understand the workings of nature and our dependence on it because so much of nature is taken for granted. The camp is a wonderful way to ignite an environmental interest which could lead to a green job or environmental career track.
Please send any questions or concerns, I will be available at the Friends of Alewife Reservation office part time beginning in June. I hope you will choose to return to the Camp this summer.
Mae and I will be in touch with you in June when we begin with Friends of Alewife Reservation training.
Sincerely,
Chamaine Washington
