Climate change statement made by Quinton Zondervan, Green Cambridge at city Conservation Commission meeting, 11-18-13

"As we are deeply concerned about the future impacts of climate change on our city, and as this and other buildings are being proposed in a federally designated floodway and vulnerable ecosystem area in our city, we hereby request that you do not permit any further construction in this area at least until the city's vulnerability study has been completed, which is expected to be done by June of 2014. We do not believe that building in this floodway is an appropriate use of this land, given the changes to our climate we are now experiencing and the even worse changes we are expecting in the near future. Recent changes to flood insurance regulations are a clear indication that ongoing development in flood sensitive areas is a bad idea and a bad investment, and this will only get worse as future climate changes are incorporated into insurance rates and FEMA maps."
