Dorothy Quincy Homestead Open House. The Dorothy Quincy Homestead is located at the intersection of Hancock Street. and Butler Street in Quincy. For more info, visit http://www.nscda.org/ma/quincy_homestead.php. A National Historic Landmark, the Quincy Homestead is significant for its role in early American history, for its architecture, and for its Quincy family association. In addition to the architecture and furnishings, docents share stories of the Quincy family during the colonial era. The tours are FREE. Donations welcome. In addition, the grounds of the Quincy Homestead can be visited during daylight hours. This small park, owned and maintained by the DCR, can be accessed through the driveway gate.

Weekend Fort Tours Fort Independence Tours at Castle Island, South Boston. Castle Island and Fort Independence are located at the end of Day Boulevard in South Boston. For more info, visit http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/metroboston/castle.htm . Castle Island is the oldest continuously fortified site in British North America! The first fort on Castle Island was built in 1634 for the coastal defense of Boston. Fort Independence, a pentagonal five-bastioned fort built between 1834 and 1851, is Castle Island's 8th fort and was built with granite from the quarries in Rockport, MA. FREE one-hour tours of Fort Independence are sponsored by the Castle Island Association in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).

Fort Independence Twilight Skyline Viewing, Castle Island, South Boston. Castle Island and Fort Independence are located at the end of Day Boulevard in South Boston. http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/metroboston/castle.htm . Enjoy a scenic sunset over the Boston Skyline from atop Fort Independence every Thursday evening from June through August (except July 4), hosted by volunteers from the Castle Island Association. Visitors for Twilight Skyline Viewing may stroll around the upper level of the Fort along Fronts 4, 5 and 1 and Shirley & Winthrop Bastions to enjoy the wonderful view and cooling coastal breezes.

Martini Shell Park Summer AM Boot Camp hosted by Hyde Park YMCA. Meet at Martini Shell Park at 1015 Truman Parkway in Hyde Park. http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/metroboston/mart.htm . Jump-start your day with our FREE Summer Boot Camp heart-pounding exercise, repetitive drills and lots of running! Bring workout clothes, proper running shoes and water. Concerts at Carson Beach. Meet at 165 William J. Day Boulevard in South Boston. http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/metroboston/dorc_sh.htm . UMass Boston's WUMB 91.9 FM, Berklee College of Music, and the Department of Conservation and Recreation have teamed up to present WUMB and Berklee Concerts at Carson Beach, bringing free live music to Dorchester Saturdays in August between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The concerts feature Berklee students and alumni groups Joe's Truckstop (August 3) Bronwyn Keith-Hynes (August 10), We Avalanche (August 17), and The Dwells (August 24). Musical genres will blend between folk, bluegrass, and pop with instrumentation that includes voice, guitar, violin, cello, and mandolin.

Neponset River Greenway Community River Celebration at Ryan Playground. Meet at Ryan Playground on River Street in Mattapan along the Neponset River Greenway. Take a walk on the future Neponset Trail, play bug bingo, enjoy a nature scavenger hunt, kid's games and races or fitness activities for the family. Neponset River Greenway Watercolor Workshop. Meet at the Neponset River Esplanade at 7 Brush Hill Road, Milton, near Mattapan Square Join MA DCR's Neponset Planner, Cathy Garnett, a talented painter, as she leads the group through basic watercolor technique. Neponset River Greenway Geology of the Neponset Trail. Meet downstairs at Milton T Stop on the Red Line Trolley in Milton. http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/metroboston/neponset.htm Registered geologist Les Tyrala will lead us along the lower Neponset as we look for evidence of ancient mountains, shallow seas, and glacial features. This is an easy walk on the Neponset Greenway through the Baker Chocolate factory complex and quiet side streets in Dorchester Lower Mills/ Milton Lower Falls. Neponset River Greenway Mattapan on Wheels. Meet at Mildred Avenue Community Center at 5 Mildred Avenue in Mattapan http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/metroboston/neponset.htm This 3rd annual family-friendly biking program is put together by the Vigorous Youth of the Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition. The route will take the group by various spots of interest in Mattapan as well as make the connection to the Neponset River Greenway. Neponset River Greenway: Walk the Future Neponset Greenway. Meet at Central Ave T stop on the Red Line Trolley in Milton. Join BNAN, the Neponset River Greenway Council and MA DCR Neponset Planner Cathy Garnett for this informative on-foot tour of the future Neponset Greenway trail.
