May 7th Photo Bird Sightings by Seamus by Seamus Palmer May 7, 2008 Accompanied by my three boys – one excited 7 year old and two reluctant “elders” – we toured part of Alewife reservation today between 2 and 3pm. Our first encounter was with a family of Canada Goose. Seven goslings delighted in the world before them.
Mallard Ducks, Robins, Mourning Doves, Red Shouldered blackbirds, Grackles, A Cardinal and numerous sparrows. Lots of nests in the making.
A Red Tail hawk overhead, A Gray Cowbird, A Swan and a rather dead Opossum completed the picture.
Just where Little River meets Alewife Brook another family of Canada Goose slipped from their nesting site into the water. This time a younger brood of four.
One of MY young brood saw a “massive” fish swim upriver - A fisherman in the making! Two turtles sunned themselves on two logs over Little River.
The one above is one of the largest I’ve seen at Alewife.
A beautiful day in a beautiful spot.
