Bulfinch Gets Praise from City Council

Whereas      On February 14th, 2005, the Cambridge Conservation Commission premitted the MDC parking lot with conditions;and
Whereas      The Bulfinch Company and the BHX Trust Affiliate will be returning six acres of impervious surface to pervious ground; and
Whereas      This proces will occur over the next several years through acts of building demolition and reseeding the areas for temporary stabilization; and
Whereas      The plan is to restore the area to its natural condition and other recreational amenities and learning for its employees and the community to further bidiversity in the area, and
Whereas      The Coalition for Alewife and the Friends of Alewife Reservation have worked with the Company to protect the area as a wonderful natural resource and environmental learning center for the Region and for visitors; and
Whereas      Former city councillors, legislators, the DCR and the Coalition for Alewife have negotiated in good faith over the parking lot for a number of years with the former O'Neill property owners and Bulfinch owners; now therefore be it
Whereas      That this City Council go on record commending these rare acts for development projects and further applauds Bulfinch for its plan to perform its excavation in good standards, and to continue to plan for a further environmental restoration for its employees and the general community, and be it further
Whereas      The City Council and the city go on record supporting these efforts and enhancing the environmental conservation measures of the Alewife Reservation and flood plain.
